Playing interactive fun games, like Hide and Go Seek, with your dog will relieve boredom. Games also provide the mental and physical stimulation your dog needs to stay happy and out of mischief. Hide and Go Seek just might be the fun game to play together!
If you play alone with your dog, have your dog sit and stay. First make sure your dog knows the “stay” command. Dogs are good at reading hand signs! So hold your palm out like a crossing guard when you give the “stay” command.
When you are first starting the Hide and Go Seek Game, find an easy place to hide, like around the corner or up on a chair for immediate success. As soon as you are hidden, call your dog’s name just once to let them know to start looking for you. If they are having trouble finding you, call the dog’s name again (or make a small noise to grab the dogs attention.) Praise like crazy and reward them with a treat or their favorite toy once they find you.
Start the game of Hide and Go Seek over again from the spot where they found you. As your dog gets better, find more difficult hiding spots, like underneath furniture or blankets and in closets.
WATCH OUT! Sometimes they peek!
As the HSUS teaches, “Through helping to care for a pet, children also learn to care for their fellow human beings. There is an established link between how people treat animals and how they treat each other. Kindness to animals is a lesson that benefits people, too.”
Just for Kids will help your kids learn responsible pet care right now!
